Participants attending this course will be given a basic introduction to the 3rd generation Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). The course starts with the standardization process, and an overview of the GSM & GPRS systems and their evolution towards UMTS. The course then investigates the more specific technical aspects of the UMTS system such as WCDMA, the network architecture, interfaces, and services. It provides knowledge necessary to understand UMTS standardisation process and GSM/GPRS evolution process towards UMTS. It is the convenient starting point prior to attending other courses related to UMTS technology.

Those requiring an appreciation of the UMTS system, its principles and applications. The course is addressed to a technical staff as well as to Customer Support Representatives, Sales Engineers and Consultants.

Prerequisites

Ability to understand technical subjects. Technical background in telecommunications would a be an advantage when attending the course.
